SEC Commissioner Peirce ‘Lies and Statistics’ Speech Available
SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce spoke recently about the agency's enforcement efforts.
One of the Securities and Exchange Commissioners recently spoke about the organization’s enforcement efforts.
On Oct. 26, SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce delivered a speech titled “Lies and Statistics” at the 26th Annual Securities Litigation and Regulatory Enforcement Seminar in Atlanta.
In it, Peirce outlined three of her fundamental beliefs surrounding SEC enforcement:
- “SEC Enforcement Should Never be a Game of Statistics”
- “SEC Enforcement Should Never be About a ‘Whole Lot of Money’”
- “The SEC Should be Open to Asking for and Receiving Help”’
Her remarks reflect the belief of many at the SEC that its core focus is to systematically protect retail investors, rather than a “broken glass” style of enforcement. Read the full speech here.
