Rowe oversees the plan’s $26.6 billion private equity portfolio, and she spoke with MMG Editor-in-Chief Deborah Cohen about the plan’s strategy, including backing private equity funds, plus direct investment alongside GPs and long-term equity holdings.
Ontario Teachers’ currently has ownership positions, both minority and majority, in nearly 60 companies, many of which are middle-market businesses, including Arterra Wines Canada and Serta Simmons Holdings. Ontario Teachers’ private equity activity began in 1991; by its 25th anniversary, it had generated a 20.2 percent return to the pension plan.
