Aberdeen Standard Investments’ Senior Investment Director Has Some Advice for GPs
On the podcast, Whit Matthews described what he looks for in managers and the biggest mistakes he sees PE firms make during succession planning.
Whit Matthews, senior investment director at Aberdeen Standard Investments, sat down with MMG on the sidelines of the Association for Corporate Growth’s InterGrowth conference to talk about what his firm looks for when selecting GPs to work with and some of the common missteps he sees private equity firms make during succession planning.
The biggest mistake that we see in terms of missteps with succession is really around an unwillingness to share economics more broadly over time.
During the conversation, he also described his firm’s relationship with emerging managers and independent sponsors, and he commented on some of the broader fundraising and investing trends he’s watching.
At a time when many economists are predicting the end of this economic cycle, Matthews weighed in on how he expects a recession will impact co-investment activity, and how LPs are preparing for an eventual downturn.
